📝 Registration & Team Formation

Registration is easy! Visit our website at GemCitySocialSports.com, navigate to the 'Soccer' or 'Leagues' page, and select the current season. You will be prompted to create an account and choose your registration type (Free Agent, Small Group, or Team Captain).

All skill levels are welcome! We are a Social League first and foremost. While the Men's league can be competitive, the main goal is to have fun, get active, and meet new people.

If you don't have a team, you register as a Free Agent. This is a great way to meet people! We will place you on a team that needs players or combine you with other Free Agents to form a new team.

This option is for you and a few friends (2-5 players) who want to play together but don't have enough people for a full team. How it works: One person creates a "Small Group" name during registration, and the others select that group when they sign up. We will then place your entire group onto the same team together.

This is for captains who have a complete roster ready to go. Captain's Role: The captain registers the team first. Players: Team members then register and select the specific team name from the list. Roster Size: You control your roster size, though we recommend carrying enough subs for the season.

⚽ Game Format & Rules

This is a 7v7 league. Teams play with a maximum of 7 players on the field (6 field players + 1 goalie). The minimum number of players required to start a game without forfeiting is 5.

Yes. While it is designated as a 'Men's League,' it functions as an Open League. Women are welcome to play if they wish, and there are no gender maximums/minimums on the field.

Games consist of two 25-minute running halves with a brief 5-minute halftime. The clock runs continuously and only stops for official timeouts or serious injuries.

No. Even in the Men's league, slide tackling is strictly prohibited to ensure player safety. Slide Tackle: Indirect or Direct kick for the opposing team (depending on severity/contact). Slide to block a shot: Generally allowed if no other player is nearby, but we recommend staying on your feet to avoid judgment calls by the referee.

No. Because we play 7v7 on a shortened field, there is no offside rule.

Substitutions are unlimited and can be made 'on the fly' during play, or during stoppages. The player leaving the field must be off (or within 5 yards of the sideline) before the new player enters.

🏆 Standings & Points

We use a "Social Scoring" system that rewards both winning and hanging out with your team. Win: 10 Points Draw: 5 Points Loss: 0 Points Team Photo: 5 Points (Submit a team photo to the league manager/Spond). Social Bonus: 5 Points (Awarded for hanging out with your team at the sponsor bar/social event after the game).

If teams are tied on total points at the end of the season, we use the following order: Total Wins Total Social/Photo Points Fewest Forfeits Head-to-Head record Goal Differential

👕 Equipment & Uniforms

Footwear: Rubber molded cleats or turf shoes are allowed. NO metal cleats. Shin Guards: Strongly recommended for your safety.

Gem City Social Sports provides league t-shirts. We ask that all players wear their league shirt. If a sub or new player doesn't have one yet, they should wear a shirt of a matching color to the rest of the team. Need a shirt? If you do not already have a GCSS shirt in the correct color, they are available for purchase for $15.

🌧️ Weather & Logistics

We play Rain or Shine! Unless there is lightning or the field conditions are deemed dangerous by the field manager, the game is on. Lightning Policy: If lightning is seen, play is suspended for 25 minutes (or per facility policy). Everyone must return to their cars. Play resumes 25 minutes after the last flash.

Minimum to Play: You need 5 players to start an official game. Forfeits: If you know you cannot field a team, please notify us by 3:00 PM the day before to avoid a "No-Show" penalty.
